Featured Member Spotlight - KELLY

Name: Kelly Galante  Nickname: Kel; my fiance calls me the hurricane LOL  Occupation outside of being a CFCA superstar: International Customer Service Manager for a biotechnology company  Hometown: Gloucester girl!  Favorite type of workout music: METAL!!!!! Favorite movement/exercise? Deadlifts tied with double unders.  Which class do you usually attend? I've been dragging myself out of bed to hit the early am classes. Do you prefer indoor or outdoor? I prefer to be indoors. There's just something about being inside our gym that helps motivate me (and I don't leave class with leaves and dirt in my hair...haha). How did you find out about CFCA? It's been so many years that I don't remember. I was at CFCA in our old space.  Did you play sports back in the day? Or was it all smoking butts under the bleachers?    No smoking for me! I played some softball when I was younger and on a work coed softball team. I do regret not playing more organized sports. But I used to love playing football and street hockey with the neighborhood kids. I always dreamed about playing ice hockey!! Well, I should start with street hockey until I learn how to skate . I did study martial arts for over 13 years and was ready to test for my 3rd degree black belt when I needed to take a break (no pun intended).  How has CFCA changed your life outside of the gym? I feel stronger and healthier overall. I am also happier! Between the diverse, challenging workouts and the amazing, supportive community; it's a recipe for success. How do you stay motivated? Motivation is a daily challenge, but feeling better makes it all worthwhile. Also. Because of some physical issues, it's very important for me to keep moving. I definitely notice I feel a bit better when I'm consistently working out. I also needed to lose some weight (and still working on it), and so that pushes me as well. And back to the mental benefits of exercise.....how can we harness that awesome feeling right after we've finished a good workout?! Pretty empowering, right? What are your goals? Are you working/training for something big? No marathons or anything like that (how in the world does anyone run that far anyway? I'd either die of exhaustion or boredom ).  I'd like to lose more weight and focus on more stretching. And I'd like to break my double under record of 68. Name one goal/personal achievement you would like to achieve with the gains made through CFCA? Getting out of bed without groaning...haha..kidding, sort of. To carry 12 versus 8 bags of groceries simultaneously from the car to my house. For real, I don't have a specific goal. I just want to be as healthy and happy as possible, and CFCA is an important ingredient in that recipe. How have you been keeping busy? Tell us about your hobbies! I've been volunteering at our local animal shelter for like 16+ years. I absolutely love helping our homeless animals and learning more about animal behavior. I enjoy doing anything outdoors especially close to the ocean. I also love drawing and watercolor painting. And, of course, rocking out to METAL!! LOL I so miss live music!!!!! What’s your favorite aspect of CFCA? The community!! It's so appropriate we are now called Community Fitness of Cape Ann. The coaches are knowledgeable, supportive, and just overall good people. And the gym members are such a diverse and cool group. I've made some long-lasting friendships because of our gym. I look forward to seeing everyone and how much progress others make. It's so inspiring. Favorite CFCA memory? Hmmm, that's a tough one. I have to say I love the annual holiday party. It's a time where we all get to relax, review the past year, congratulate folks on their accomplishments, and just have fun. Nope, not going to say it was when we did 5,000 burpees or 1 million push-ups (Coach Chris! Lol).  Any tips for the new members? Don't be nervous. Walking in that door the first time is the hardest part. Once you've taken that step, please know you'll be greeted with open arms (well, now 6 feet away...ha), and any of us will be happy to help you. Do not expect to be an expert immediately and be patient with yourself. We've all been the new person. We understand. Just show-up!
